Year 5
Welcome to squirrel class!
Teacher: Mr Spedding
Learning Support Assistants: Mrs Kent, Mrs Batthia
I’m Mr Spedding and I’m very lucky to be the teacher of Squirrel Class. I’ve been teaching for twenty years but the children in Squirrel class keep me young through their energy and enthusiasm.
In Squirrel class, we like to think about how we learn and how we can make the best use of our brains. We have high expectations of what we can do and support each other in different ways to get there. Taking a step-by-step approach, we model learning in different ways so everybody can access it and there are often ‘digging deeper’ challenges to challenge our thinking a little further. We know that we forget things (Mr Spedding especially!); therefore, we do lots of retrieval practice activities to help our learning ‘stick’ in our brains and use our knowledge organisers to help us learn key knowledge. Above all, we want to be engaged in our learning so that we are challenged and have fun.

“I enjoy every subject because our teacher helps us understand everything and shows us things step-by-step.”
