Autumn Art Exhibit
Shortly before Christmas, Hallam Fields Primary School hosted their first art exhibition of the year. The event – which took place afterschool in a packed hall full of parents and carers - provided pupils with a great opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic artwork they produced during the Autumn Term.
Year One children enjoyed experimenting with paints, mixing primary and secondary colours to create an imaginary repeated pattern. Meanwhile, Hedgehog Class in Year Two, had fun modelling clay and adding texture and paint to create their very own dragon’s eye; it was a fun activity and perfectly complemented this term’s main topic ‘Castles, Knights and Dragons.’
Up in Key Stage 2, Year Three pupils have been learning about Georgia O’Keeffe and used different pencil styles and a watercolour wash to create their very flower picture, mimicking the style of the famed American painter. Mr Sawyer’s Year Fours, learned about 3D lettering this term, and used their newly acquired skills – and ideas about light and dark – to paint a fairground sign, linking in with one of their class books, The Midnight Fair.
To build on their knowledge of the Ancient Greeks, Squirrel Class in Year Five designed and made their own coil pot and decorated in a Greek style. Finally, Year 6 made their own unique sculptures in the style of Henry Moore. The children learned about how he achieved national acclaim after creating a collection of iconic bronze sculptures.
Accompanying their respective artwork, all pupils produced a piece of writing which provided greater detail about their creations. Key Stage One pupils practised their phonics skills by crafting a simple sentence, whilst older children took readers on the full creative process, describing the journey from the initial design stage to the creation and then the evaluation.
It was a joyous evening and the children loved showing off their proud work.
"I liked sharing my work with my parents," one pupil acknowledged, whilst another said, "it was interesting to see all the other classes' artwork."
The school plans to host another art exhibit in the Summer Term, with a special focus on Design and Technology. We can’t wait to see what out children come up with!
