Charity Jumble Sale

This term, as part of their Lionheart Character Award, Year 3 children at Hallam Fields Primary School hosted a jumble sale to raise money for charity.

The sale formed part of the class’ social action project, where they chose to raise money for Action Homeless; a local charity committed to raising awareness around homelessness and to provide sufficient support to those individuals who are without a home.

To gather items to sell, the children wrote letters of appeal to staff, parents and pupils, asking them to donate any unwanted toys, books, games, puzzles and teddies.

On a sunny June day, the children set up their stall on the playground and many of the items on display found new, loving homes; including the famous Hallam Fields orange monkey!

After the last of the items had been whisked away, children began to count the takings. The final total stood at £66, an outstanding amount.

A few weeks later, Action Homeless came into school to collect the money and speak to the pupils, educating them about the growing issues surrounding homelessness.

It was a very worthwhile cause and one the children work exceptionally hard to support.
