Hallam expansion consultation – response to community feedback
Following our recent (April - May 2025) community consultation regarding the proposed expansion of Hallam Fields Primary School, from one class per year group to two, we received a small number of questions and comments across common themes. In the interests of keeping the community up to date with plans, we are sharing our responses below:Drop-off point:
We are reviewing the on-site drop-off and pick-up points to assist with removing cars from the local streets during the busier pick-up and drop-off times.
Parking:
We intend to increase the capacity of the existing car park by 15 spaces, which will support the need for additional staff parking as well as create additional spaces for the wider community who access the community fields adjacent to the school site. These will include EV charging spaces.
Playground and Playing Field spaces:
We will add additional playground space for each new class added to the school. The proposed school expansion scheme also includes the creation of a new hard play area. This will be on an area of the school field currently underutilised and therefore, will not adversely impact the capacity of the main school field. Pupils will instead acquire an additional play and learning space. If deemed beneficial for the children, the school may separate breaktimes for keystage 1 and 2 in the future, giving a single keystage more space to play.
Staffing:
Each new class will be taught by a class teacher and maintain a ratio of 1 teacher:30 pupils, meaning that the teacher will get to know each pupil in their class and build strong relationships with all. Lionheart Trust has an experienced recruitment team who will undertake timely recruitment to secure new staff for the school.
Minimising disruption during building work:
While it will be evident that building work is taking place at the school, our aim is to keep disruption to an absolute minimum for pupils. Lionheart and Hallam Fields Primary will work closely with the contractor and local authority to implement the most suitable building programme. This will include scheduling the more intrusive work during holiday periods and outside of learning time. If necessary, the route on and off the site for children and parents/carers will be replanned, to ensure safety at all times.
