Early Years Foundation Stage
Welcome to Rabbit Class!
My name is Miss Twombley and I am the class teacher in EYFS. We are also very lucky to be supported by Miss Sibson and Miss Smith. I have been teaching for 8 years now and when I am not teaching, I enjoy swimming, walking and being outdoors. I also enjoy learning new skills and I love to read. I am really looking forward to working with your children this year and exploring their interests.
Every day in Rabbit class is an adventure and every day we get to experience something different. We love to explore and we have lots of fun learning through play. We enjoy using all areas of our provision, both indoors and outdoors and we aim to complete as many ‘Rainbow Challenges’ as we can in a week. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is a play-based approach to learning and development, enabling children to develop in all areas.
The EYFS curriculum is made up of seven areas.
Prime areas:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Communication and Language
Specific areas:
Literacy
Maths
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
We plan a range of creative and practical activities to enable all children to grow and develop their confidence. Through daily phonics, maths activities and circle time sessions, we aim for all children to become confident speakers, readers, writers and mathematicians.
Phonics is very important in EYFS and the progress the children make with their reading and writing in their first year of school is amazing. We have daily phonics lessons, following the Little Wandle programme. We also want to promote a love of reading and build the children’s vocabulary. We aim to do this through ensuring that the children are exposed to a range of texts throughout the year. I will read to the children on a daily basis and we will also be sending books home for you to enjoy sharing with your children.
We believe that the relationships which the children develop in their first year of school are key to their happiness and development and will lay the best possible foundation for them to become independent lifelong learners.
Rabbit Class is a friendly, happy and exciting place to be. We want to ensure that the children have the best experience possible in their first year at school.
We teach the children in Rabbit Class that it is ok to make mistakes. We believe that it is important to support children to build resilience, take risks and welcome challenge!
Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please send your child to school wearing their PE kits on these days.
